Moving install

If you want to redesign your site using Etomite, it is possible that you want to build the new site first and then replace the original one. Or you change webservers/hosting companies. In both cases you have to move your Etomite install. This page tells you what you need to do and what you can expect. In general: there is no problem at all! Etomite is a very portable CMS, basically you can toss it around as much as you want. There are however a few points of attention.

Backup!

In general, before you start messing around with your Etomite install, you should make some backups.

Moving your files

If you have shell access to your webserver, moving your files is very easy: just move all the files and directories to their destination. File permissions stay intact so you don't have to worry about that.

When you don't have shell access you have to FTP your entire Etomite directory (including all the subfolders) to the new location. The risk of files being damaged and file permissions being messed up is slightly bigger using this method. Therefore, when you've finished uploading, you have to check that the permissions are exactly the way they were before. (http://docs.etomite.org/GetReady.html)

Also, when you were using the .htaccess file, it could be that you have to change the path RewriteBase points to.

Moving your database (only when changing servers)

First you need to make a standard dump of the existing MySQL database en use that dump to populate the new database tables. Then make sure to edit /path/to/Etomite/manager/includes/config.inc.php to match the new MySQL database details.

Configuration settings

Some settings can't be determined automatically on all servers. That's why you have to check the settings in you Etomite configuration. Especially the paths to file managers, images etc could be wrong.

You also might want to check your links and images. If you had pointed to relative paths, nothing may be wrong. But if you had absolute URL's there, you have to change them all manually.

Problems

Some people move there install without a hitch, others have multiple adjustments to make. That's mainly because of the hundreds of different server configurations out there. Use the FAQ's or the forums to find out if anyone encountered your problem before. If not, the community will be very much willing to help you.
